I was recently downtown here in Traverse City talking to the young ladies who work at our local spiritual shop and they both complimented me on how colorful I always dress.

Instead of taking their compliment I started feeling insecure because of a secret I had.  Do you want to hear it?

I only have two pairs of jeans.

There, I said it!  I felt uncomfortable by their compliment because I hadn’t yet allowed myself to feel proud of the fact I only have two pairs of jeans and instead I was still operating on “fitting in”.  Fitting in to me meant that I “should” have more.  How many more?  I don’t know but certainly the masses would think that something was WRONG with me, or anyone else for that matter, that ONLY has two pairs of jeans.  Like, maybe we are too poor for more jeans.

But here’s the skinny (haha get it, skinny jeans)!

Not only do I only have 2 pairs of jeans.  My wardrobe is extremely limited.  I have 5 pairs of shoes, 2 dress pants, 2 leggings, 5 t-shirts, 3 vests, 3 pairs of pajamas, and about 10 other longer sleeved tops and sweaters.  That actually sounds like a lot now that I took inventory but two years ago that was a different story.  Two years ago I had things in my closet that I hadn’t even worn since I PAID for them to get shipped here when we moved from Las Vegas.  I had things that I kept just because someone gave it to me, not because I liked it.

What changed?

I did the Konmari Method of Tidying up.  Not because I was a slob or a hoarder by any means but because of the Feng Shui qualities it had.

Now I only have things that bring me absolute joy.  This goes far beyond the massive purge I did in my closet.  I also only have dishes that I love, most of my nick knacks are gone, all the papers I was saving in the closet are gone and pretty much anywhere you look in my home the things that are here are intentional.

This process has not only brought me joy (and less stuff) it has brought me to be able to live a more meaningful life and all with less stress!

I used to try on several different outfits but now I know what I’ll wear.  Pay attention to my social media pictures and videos and you will notice I’m either wearing red, hot pink, white or blue.

Share with me!!!  What are you doing that is different than the masses?  What can you do to feel less stress?

I’m so glad I came out of the closet with my fear of only having two pairs of jeans, which by the way, make me feel and look great!

Less is more,
Brandaleen
